Reflections
A long
time ago
Here
in this very place
I remember
many voices
I recall
each loving face
I remember
the smells of this room
Of homebaked
pies and bread
The smell
of perfume strong and musky
Fresh
washed linens on the bed.
I recall
the sound of whiporwills
The night
sounds that never die
Frogs
and crickets, dogs howling in the distance
Some
things throughout time never die.
I remember
the smell of polished wood
Of the
grandfather clocks' constant chime
The sound
of a bell being rung outside
Meals
on the table on time.
I recall
the smell of the summer rain
Of sweet
honeysuckles in bloom
There's
no smells like the countryside
Tis the
sweetest of perfumes.
I remember
waking as the sun rose
I recall
the rooster's crow
Bidding
us wake to the morning
I wonder
where do those years go?
.
I glance
in the mirror as I close the door
Then
I smile for a moment and sigh..
For the
things I recall from childhood
Reflections
that never die.
