ong
ago in time of yore
When time was just a word
There was a tale of a maiden
fair
That drew her lover's sword.
She loved her lad with a
true heart
As only women do
She thought her lover faithful
She thought his love was
true.
She toiled hard this maiden
From dawn to setting sun
She thought she'd found
her true love
He had to be the "one".
She worked hard as fit a
servant
Twas not easy to cook
and clean
But she knew it'd all be
worth it
When she donned her wedding
ring.
And when all her chores
were over
She rushed to her lover's
side
Listening to promises of
forever
Kept her dreams of tomorrow
alive.
A bottle of wine in one
hand
And a basket of food in
store
Her lover came daily to
meet her
At the edge of the ocean
shore.
They laughed and watched
the sunset
Making love at the evening
tide
She clung to every moment
Longing to be his bride.
When the stars began to
come out
They'd kiss and then they'd
part
But one day she decided
to follow him
It would be only be a lark.
The moonlight guided her
footsteps
as he walked to the tavern
in town
She knew the mists had cloaked
her
He'd never hear a sound.
She watched as he neared
the tavern
Curious what she would see
For ale and women were plenty
Sometimes these pleasures
were free.
She watched as he paused
in the doorway
Then she saw a coach pull
in place
A beautiful young maiden
stepped out
Dressed in the finest of
silks and lace.
She looked on as her lover
bowed
Reaching upward he kissed
the maids' hand
She cringed at the scene
before her
Too painful to understand
For a moment she could not
see them
For her eyes teared for
her lover untrue
Anger shot through her like
fire
All her dreams were a nightmare
come true.
Silently she wiped her angry
tears
Then saw the coach pulling
away
How could she be so foolish
Twas time to make him pay.
Jealousy and rage filled
her being
How could he betray her
love
For his child she now carried
within her
A gift she swore from above.
She watched as he reached
toward his saddle
His sword flashing at its'
side
She silently crept through
the moonlight
No longer would she hide.
She ran towards him screaming
in anger
Startled he was at her sight
"None other shall ever have
you!!"
Were the last words he'd
hear that night.
She reached towards the
sword he carried
Before he could utter a
sound
Then pierced his heart as
he stood there
Blood silently poured to
the ground.
She watched as he crumbled
before her
In agony he asked
her why??-
She replied, "The one I
saw you with earlier-
Does she carry your child
as I?"
He groaned as his blood
spilled around him
"If you'd asked you'd understand
The maiden was a merchants'
daughter
Who delivers whenever she
can."
"You see I made a purchase
For an item of purest gold
Twas a treasure greater
than any
Promised to me and sold."
"Alas I never betrayed you.
And the proof lies
in my hand."
Opening his fingers he whispered....
....
"Behold thy wedding band."

Tis
a tale that has a lesson
For
to love is to never fear
For
sometimes things can fool the eye
Not being what they appear.
